I have bought this book for my niece, aged 6, who moved to Canada and needed to learn French. It was a very helpful first encounter with the language.
Considering there's a big fat spelling error right on the front cover, you're best to avoid this and look for something else that's been better edited and reviewed more closely.
There is no music or anything that would make my baby want to listen to it. Not to mention, at many points, the voice on the cd does not even sound like a native French speaker (I speak French and have lived in France). I am a little disappointed with this product. Although the book is great for non-French speaking parents (it has French on one side and English on the other, along with illustrations) the cd is not very entertaining for a baby or toddler. There is really only one person speaking the entire time (it sounds like the same person does the adult and child voice), and the whole cd is the "adult" saying or asking something and the "child" responding.
Engaging for the parent and digestible for the child. Its unique Charming and age appropriate. I am so happy someone did this.
It's a nice change from too many products that are marketed to parents (ie with immediate translations). The translations (for parents who don't speak French) are in the book, not the CD, another plus, as it allows full immersion. and there are no clumsy translations. The book has all the texts, and is organized by theme. It's clearly meant as a (excellent) support for an adult teaching a child. A few pictures accompany key words for each subject.
Just a word of caution: The adult will need to help the child with words they don't know, stop the CD and replay the session etc. This is another (hop, skip, learn is another) great language product by Ana Lomba. It's very complete, but simple, with repetitions. The French speaker is native (another fairly rare treat in language products for kids in the US).
